About Akon

Akon (Aliaune Damala Badara Akon Thiam) is a globally acclaimed Senegalese-American singer, songwriter, record producer, and entrepreneur who defined an era of R&B, hip-hop, and pop music throughout the 2000s. Rising to international stardom with his multi-platinum debut album Trouble and chart-topping anthems like "Locked Up" and "Lonely", he made music history as the first solo artist to simultaneously hold the number one and two spots on the Billboard Hot 100. Beyond his solo discography and iconic guest hooks for global superstars, he proved to be an influential executive by founding Konvict Muzik and Kon Live Distribution, where he famously helped launch the careers of artists like Lady Gaga and T-Pain. In addition to his enduring musical legacy, Akon is widely recognized for his visionary entrepreneurial ventures and major philanthropic initiatives—most notably Akon Lighting Africa, which has brought solar-powered electricity to millions across the continent.
